Guest Writers Wanted!

Guest WriterI am looking for anyone interested in writing an article(s) on a subject that you are interested in, or have knowledge of, to share on this blog.  If you find it interesting, then I am absolutely sure that there are other neighbors that are also interested in learning about it!  Please think about what you might be able to share, write an article about it, and send it to me at CUNColorado@aol.com.  Attaching pictures along with it would be a huge plus!  The following are possible ideas:

  • Your favorite trail to walk, or ride a horse, to see the autumn leaves.
  • The best craft fair for buying Christmas gifts.
  • Secrets to catching a fish in our pond.
  • Your favorite recipe.
  • Step by step instructions on how to make something.
  • Identifying plants or mushrooms found in this area.
  • How to preserve the exterior of your log home.
  • Post a question to the community.
  • A list of items to have on hand in case of an extended blizzard.
  • Identifying animal tracks.

Fall is in the air!

Autumn 9-22-2013aOn Sunday, September 22nd, we walked up Elk Creek into the National Forest looking for trees with leaves that were changing color.  It was cloudy most of the afternoon and we encountered a little drizzle on the way home.  All in all a perfect fall day!  The leaves are beginning to change, but we were more impressed by how much water was still rushing down this usually calm creek!  It wasn’t until we were coming home that we were shown the most golden aspen of all and it was in our own back yard the whole time!  Autumn 9-22-2013bLooking up at our cabin from the road, the sun was like a spot light on the one and only tree that had already completely changed into a shimmering yellow.  It was like the sun was saying “Hey dummies, it’s right here!”  To see more of my pictures, go to the Autumn page, under the Photo Gallery menu option above.  The next couple of weeks should be magnificent for fall colors!  Please send me the pictures you capture with your camera at CUNColorado@aol.com so that we may also share your experience!

ECHPOA Pond Full

After raining for a full week, the IMAG0354Church Fork Elk Creek run off has filled up the ECHPOA Pond!  My husband and I drove up from Denver to our property today to see how our cabin driveway had stood up to all this rain and were pleasantly surprised with how full the pond was!  To see more pictures of all the water flowing down through Elk Creek, go to the Autumn page under the Photo Gallery menu option above.  I also took a video of the water flowing into the pond and posted my very first YouTube video, welcoming myself into the 21st century technology!  To view my video, (taken about 1:30pm, September 15th) please go to:  ECHPOA Pond Video

It is beginning to feel a lot like fall!

This wonderful picture of the fog/low clouds was taken Fog 09-13-2013aon September 12th and sent to me by Jana Coughlin who recently moved to Elk Creek Highlands with her husband.  To see more of her pictures go to the Autumn page under the Photo Gallery menu option above.

Although the Park County area has had rain again this week, we luckily did not have the downpours and floods that washed out roads and bridges across the Front Range in areas such as Boulder, Lyons, Estes Park, and Aurora!

It feels like fall!
