Once in a Blue Moon

blue moonThere is a full moon every month, however, because the lunar cycle and the calendar year are not perfectly synched, there can be a second full moon in the same month.  This second full moon is called a Blue Moon, not because of its color, but because it only happens once every 2.72 years.  The moon may appear to be blue, but that would be because smoke or dust particles are in the atmosphere from something like a volcanic eruption or forest fire.

So if you ever wondered where the phrase “once in a blue moon” came from, it means something so rare that you might not see it in your lifetime.  Therefore, tonight, Friday, July 31st, go out and take a look at the moon!  You will not have another chance to see a second full moon in one month again until January 31, 2018!

Do you know?

Do you know someone, or do you know Building Improvementssomeone that knows someone, that would be interested in being hired to help with some improvements to the Association Building?  We have a few projects that we would like completed before the community “Hot, Sweet & Spooky Harvest Party” in October and we are running out of summer!  Our current volunteers do not have the time or expertise to get these projects completed without help.  Our goal is to get some estimates of what each project would cost and then figure out what we can accomplish with the small budget we have.  Some of these projects include, but not limited to, new front steps and landing, replace flooring, repair and paint deck, and refresh wooden association emblem on the front of the building.

If you do know someone…..PLEASE send me their contact information or give them mine as soon as possible.  I would like to present proposals at the next monthly association meeting on August 5th.

Thank you for your help!  Volunteers to help on any projects are also always needed and appreciated!

Rainy Season Begins!

Bailey Monthly Precipitation Totals-July2015

Data collected for the National Weather Service website, shows that the amount of rain Bailey received during June was just about average.  With July and August typically being our “rainy season,” or when most of the region’s average annual rainfall occurs, it is predicted that we will see much more rain in the next 6 weeks.  As of July 15th, Bailey has received 2.91 inches so far this month, already more than what was received during the whole month of June.
